What Students Can Expect From This Course
Course Description:
Spanish 2 provides an opportunity for students to enhance the skills developed in Spanish 1. Speaking, reading, listening, and writing are further developed through constant practice. Students will be able to communicate in a variety of topics, gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures, connect with other disciplines, and use the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment. These objectives will be met through class presentations, textbook activities, selected readings, TPR (total physical response), games, songs, music, skits, videos and technology, including a new language lab.
Course Expectations:
All students will come to class to improve their Spanish skills. Much of the learning comes from the students’ own desire and willingness to speak Spanish in and out of class. This is an academically rigorous class, requiring dedication and enthusiasm.

Assessment and Grading:
The single, most important thing students can do to achieve an excellent grade is to speak Spanish every day in class. Students can expect comprehensive oral and written evaluations. Grades are weighted:

What Is Expected From The Student
- Se habla español todo el tiempo.
- Respect all persons and materials in the classroom at all time. Disrespect, in any form will not be tolerated.
- Be prepared every day! Bring your binder, paper, pen and pencil.
- Be on time. You must be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Each tardy will lower your participation. After 3rd tardy, DHS Discipline policy will be implemented.
- Homework must be completed and on time in class when the tardy bell rings. Make-up work will be accepted within a reasonable (teacher’s discretion) period of time. Students are responsible for any missed notes and homework. You can call the school or check my Web page to get your assignments if you are absent more than two days. Any work you do not do will turn into a zero.
- If you are absent for more than two days, you need to follow the instructions for Participation-Make-up work. Go to "Spanish 2 Forms" to find the instructions.
- Stay in your seat. Stay on task. Raise your hand for all questions and comments, but attempt them in Spanish before reverting to English.
- Purpose: Extended practice is an integral part of the learning process. Study after study has concluded that only through repetition of concept review and extended practice does the human mind actually absorb essential information and learn.
- Type of homework: Workbook exercises, worksheets, textbook exercises, listening comprehension activities, reading comprehension activities, assessment preparation, short constructed response writings, creative activities.
- Expected time for completion This depends upon the complexity of the practice assigned. Suggested guidelines 10-20 minutes of focused work.
- Homework protocol: mandatory credited assignments will be given no more than twice per week, with optional suggested extended practice given on a daily basis.
- Where is homework listed: on classroom whiteboard and on teacher website in “agendas y tarea” dropdown page.
- 3-ring Binder and notebook paper is required. To organize your notebook, you will need the following 3 dividers: ( 1. Diarios (journals) 2. Apuntes/Hojas de Practica (notes/worksheets) 3. Actividades de la clase (class activities)
- Spanish/English pocket dictionary (bring daily to class)
- Pencil and pen (blue or black ink only)
- E-textbook (Home access to Realidades.com)
- Spanish workbook
